Family Lawyer - My ex-defacto is refusing me access to our child. Can you help?

Date: February 22, 2011

Q. Until recently I was in a defacto relationship and my ex-partner has now denied me access to our child? Can you help me?

A. It does not matter whether you are married or in a defacto relationship all matters involving children are dealt with by the Family Law Court of Australia. In your circumstances we can approach the court for orders which may include custody, but this may depend on the age and circumstances of the child at this stage in their life.
