Protecting our taxation clients rights while they are overseas is all part of the job
Date: October 08, 2010
Authors: LAC Lawyers
LAC Lawyers represents a significant number of high net worth individual with regards to their taxation affairs.
In this particular circumstance there was an amnesty initiative being run by the Australian Taxation Office and if we were to obtain the benefits available under the amnesty, we would need to prepare detailed submissions to the Australian Taxation Office and submit these prior to the expiration of the fast approaching deadline.
Subsequent to the initial instructions from our client, he informed us that he would be travelling overseas in 5 days time and would not be contactable for 2 months at the least.
The sudden change in instructions meant that we had to act fast to communicate with our client and his accountant, gather all the necessary information required to complete the detailed submissions to the Australian Taxation Office and proceed to bring the submissions to a state of completion.
Within three days, the submissions were completed and a meeting was arranged with our client and his accountant for the purpose of reviewing the submissions. Minor amendments to the submissions were made on that same day and on the fourth day after the revised instructions were received from our client, the submissions were lodged with the Australian Taxation Office. Our timely action resulted in the preservation of the client’s ability to obtain the maximum advantage available under the amnesty initiative whilst not preventing him to travel overseas.
The client was appreciative of our hard work and effort and of our professional, direct, timely and strategic approach and ultimately of the desired outcome we were able to obtain for him.
