Ash Jawas studied law at the University of Waikato in New Zealand and was admitted to the High Court of New Zealand in 1999, and has been currently practising for ten (10) years eight (8) of which have been Australia. Ash was born in England, and raised in New Zealand to Mauritian and West Indian parents. He believes this diversity has enabled him to relate better to clients of all backgrounds in Australia’s ever changing society.
At LAC Lawyers Ash acts for clients in a wide variety of matters, notably: Business, Commercial, Civil, Criminal, Employment, Family, Personal Injury, and Estate matters.
Ash has successfully acted in settling joint ventures, multi million dollar property transactions, claims against government, family law property settlements and divorces, litigation in both the NSW Supreme Court and Federal Courts. Ash also has skill and experience representing clients in the Local and District Courts as well as a number of tribunals.
Whilst Ash enjoys practising and assisting people in all areas of law he has developed a great interest in the Criminal law. Ash has acted in matters ranging from the more serious such as; Murder, Sexual Assault, drug offences, larceny, stealing & burglary, Apprehend violence order’s, assaults, drink driving to the less serious such as public nuisance matters.
Ash believes in continued interaction with clients and forming a strong working which allows him to assess and identify their individual needs and requirements. As a result he is better able to represent clients given their individual circumstances. Ash's ability to commincate clearly and concisely with his clients is a crucial ingredient in his ability to produce results for clients.

Civil/Commercial Law
- Appear in the Local Court for Statement of Liquidated Claim matters;
- Appearing, Instructing, and advising Counsel and in Civil Claim hearings;
- Preparation of documents including Briefs, Notice of Motions, Affidavits, Subpoenas, Statement of Liquidated Claims, letter of demands, Deed of Releases, Commercial agreements.
- Achievement: Instructing Counsel in a successful Appeal in the Federal Court of Australia against the validity of an appointment of an Administrator by an independent Statutory body; and Instructing Counsel in a mediated settlement against government departments with respect to a duty of care matter.
Conveyancing and Property Law
- Carriage of over 100, sale and purchase of residential and business property matters, including transfers and easements, from commencement to completion;
- Carriage of Retail & Commercial Lease matters, acting for both Lessor and Lessee, from commencement to completion.
- Carriage of Retail Leases for a publicly listed Company including reviewing, advising, negotiating and finalising Leases for their Retail premises Australia wide. In addition managing rental issues for the Company.
- Advise Joint Ventures on major financial transactions.
- Preparation of documents including; Contract for Sale of Land, Retail & Commercial Lease, Trust, Loan Agreements, Mortgages, Deed of Covenants etc;
- Achievement: Settlement of a 3 million dollar sale of a property owned by a partnership which involved, Covenants, Leases, Caveats, and Power of Attorneys.
Criminal Law
- Appear in the Children’s, Local, District, and Supreme Court, and Court of Criminal Appeal for various matters including, Mentions, Pleas, Bail Applications, Sentences, Hearings, Arraignments, Notice of Motions, instructing Solicitor in Trials, and Legal Aid duty Solicitor;
- Instructing Counsel in trials for murder, sexual assault, drugs, fraud etc;
- Preparation of Court documents including Notice of Motions, Subpoenas etc;
- Conference and provide advice to clients at Correctional centres such as Parramatta Gaol, Parklea Correctional Centre, and MRRC;
- Communicate with various departments and offices including, Director of Public Prosecutions, Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, Courts, Police Prosecutors, Crime Commission;
- Achievements: Successful Pleas in assault and traffic matters, minimise sentence for serious drug offender, instruct in trial where accused for murder was acquitted.
Estates & Wills
- Carriage of an extensive number of Estate matters, from initial instructions through to application for Probate, and Administration of the Estate;
- Preparation of last Will and Testaments, Power of Attorneys, and Probate applications;
- Achievement: Assist in an Estate settlement of a contested Will.
Industrial Relations, Personal Injury, Workers and Victims Compensation
- Appear and Instruct Counsel, and appear in the District Court for Personal Injury, Industrial Relations Commission, and Workers Compensation Commission for various matters, including Hearings, Mentions, Directions, return of Subpoenas, and Notice of Motions;
- Preparation of initial claims, Briefs for Counsel, Notice of Motions, Subpoenas, etc
- Achievement: negotiation and settlement of Workers Compensation matters prior to Court proceedings.
Family Law
- Act and advise in Divorce, Contact/Residence and Property settlement matters;
- Appear at the Children’s and Family Court for Mentions, Mediations, Conciliation Conferences, Hearings;
- Preparation of Court documents including; Affidavits, Consent Orders, Terms of Settlement, Financial Statements, Form 3 Applications and Responses to Application;
- Achievement: settlement and resolution of a majority of Contact/Residence and Property matters by consent prior to Court proceedings.
