John commenced his legal career in 1981 working in a para-legal capacity in the Oil & Gas Division of a major project engineering firm. While there, he prepared applications for statutory authorisations, advised on a large range of legal requirements for client and company activities, and negotiated and prepared documentation for property acquisitions.
Upon admission as a solicitor, John practised in a wide range of areas. However from early on, he has concentrated on commercial law, property law, commercial litigation, and industrial and employment law.
In his early years as a solicitor when acting for many firms in the advertising industry, he developed an interest in the area of defamation.
John opened his own law firm in 1999 and continued to concentrate on commercial law, property law and conveyancing, commercial litigation (including defamation), and industrial and employment law. He has been involved in a diverse variety of cases, extending from the conduct of litigation in most courts to advising on charter party agreements for maritime businesses. John has developed a keen interest in aspects of maritime law, including giving advice to tug boat operators and marina businesses. He sees this as complementary to his keenness for sailing and love of the water.
Since joining LAC Lawyers, John's focus is Business & Commercial law (including maritime law), property law and conveyancing, commercial litigation (including defamation), industrial & employment law and Wills & Estate disputes.
John has enjoyed great success acting for clients who are involved in estate disputes. He has acted for executors, beneficiaries and family members who have been left nothing in a will. John represents clients from all over New South Wales applying care and skill to better position them to achieve results.
In a number of these cases John has sought to further cement his clients’ positions by retaining special counsel due to the complexity of the dispute. It is John’s ability to identify the crucial issues and his excellent working relationship with counsel that allows him to achieve results that have truly benefited his clients.
In some cases LAC Lawyers is willing to enter into conditional costs agreements with clients which means that the firm collects its fees upon settlement. The advantage of such an arrangement for is that clients do not bear the burden of legal fees every month and that when payment does fall due the monies from the estate settlement are applied to cover the cost of the legal fees. If you would like to discuss this further please call 9904 6800
John is an extremely dedicated practitioner whose aim is to protect his clients and achieve the best possible outcome for them. Apart from his interests in legal education and assisting the community, his principal interests are sailing, swimming, photography and music as time permits.
