Maria graduated with a combined degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Hons)/ Laws and has been practicing as a lawyer since August 2004.
She has extensive experience in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW and has comprehensive knowledge of their respective rules and regulations in both the civil and criminal jurisdiction. In recent times Maria's Supreme Court experience has involved acting for both creditors and debtors in the winding up of companies.
Maria has conducted trade practices claims in the Federal Court of Australia and has appeared in the Federal Magistrates Court on bankruptcy applications for both creditors and debtors.
Maria's legal experience is predominately in commercial litigation which has involved providing advice with respect to areas of law such as:
- leasing disputes;
- real property security issues with respect to caveats and unregistered mortgages;
- priority dealing disputes;
- deeds of debt and guarantee attached to land;
- assessment of economic and consequential loss arising from an undervalued business and share valuation;
- breach of contract arising out of building and construction contracts; and
- claims made pursuant to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999 (NSW)
As a result of Maria's commercial experience she has also gained valuable experience in employment issues such as:
- Unfair dismissal claims in AIRC;
- Workplace Ombudsman;
- Discrimination claims; and
- Employment contracts.
Maria has represented directors of publicly listed companies, property developers, insurance claims managers, construction contractors and tradesmen. She focuses on building good relationships with her clients to ensure that their interests are dealt with tact and discretion in handling their issues.
